  18. <p>     Citibank, largest issuer of credit cards in the U.S.,
  19. announced that as of June 1 it will reward its best customers
  20. with lower credit-card interest rates--as little as 13.9% for
  21. Preferred Members. Other banks will probably follow, taking the
  22. bite out of congressional complaints about high rates and
  23. starting a war that consumers can win.

  25. <p>A TITAN FELLED
  26. </p>
  27. <p>     Italy's biggest postwar financial scandal brought down an
  28. industrial titan when Carlo De Benedetti, chairman of Olivetti,
  29. was sentenced to six years and four months in prison for
  30. complicity in the 1982 collapse of Banco Ambrosiano, Italy's
  31. largest private bank. He promises an appeal.
